Roger brings more than 30 years of world-class engineering experience to the global events and entertainment industry, specialising in the design, project management, and flawless execution of iconic ceremonial flames, cauldrons, and relay torches. Most recently, he led the engineering, installation, and live operations for the spectacular Flame Features in the Cauldrons at the Milan and Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

A Chemical Engineer by background, Roger spent decades optimising high-temperature industrial combustion systems before turning his expertise toward creating high-impact visual spectacles. As Chief Executive Officer of FCT Flames, he bridges the gap between creative artistic vision and rigorous technical discipline. His focus is on delivering safe, highly reliable, and visually stunning flame systems for major international events, ceremonies, and entertainment productions, building on a legacy of innovation, project management, and world-first technical excellence.

Trained as a Mechanical Engineer with extensive industrial experience in combustion and high temperature processes, David Retallack entered the realm of Olympic Torches and Cauldrons in the lead up to the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Working with the world’s leading opening ceremony designers since 2000 including Australians Rick Birch and David Atkins, David interprets the artist’s intent in terms of the look, feel and emotional impact of the flame and then manages the design, construction, installation, commissioning and operation of these spectacular flame effects.
